Superintendent's Monthly Message
August/September Superintendent’s Message
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the staff of the Union School District, I welcome you to the start of the 2015-2016 school year. The teachers, classified staff, and administrators have been working diligently to prepare the schools and the instructional program for the upcoming school year.
Our maintenance and operations staff have been preparing school campuses to ensure the shining start of the new school year. Classrooms have been cleaned, cafeterias have been scrubbed, and playgrounds scoured. Three of our campuses received a glistening new coat of paint (the remaining sites to be done next summer), which will ensure a fresh new start to the school year.
In technology services, our staff members have been installing new big screen televisions in the classrooms, which will further align instruction and learning with 21st Century skills. Staff have also been working on the deployment of 1,500 technology devices as we move to a ratio of 1:1 student to computer devices in the classroom. It is an exciting time in USD for students and staff as technology integration becomes a top priority in our district.
Our Human Resource department has been busy hiring a director, a principal, teachers, administrative assistants, and a number of other classified employees. They work with our existing staff to recruit and retain the most qualified and caring staff to support the ongoing success of your children.
Teachers and administrators have been attending professional development on technology integration, the common core state standards, and curriculum development. They have dedicated countless hours of their summer to best prepare our students for the new standards and new skills that will ensure their success in USD and beyond into high school.
In our business department, USD staff members have been busy ordering materials and resources for all of our students. They have ensured that the ordering and acquisition of materials are complete to make sure that our students have instructional materials and resources to learn. From computers to workbooks, our business team members worked diligently to provide our children with what they need to succeed.
We are looking forward to a wonderful new school year! I thank all of the dedicated and hardworking staff of USD for their diligence in preparing for the upcoming year. With enthusiasm and commitment, the staff has dedicated themselves to ensuring the success of your students.
