denise clay March Superintendent’s Message

March is an exciting month!  On the 13th, we turn our clocks forward an hour for daylight savings.  Our days will become longer and we will welcome the first day of spring a week later.

Dartmouth Middle School and Union Middle School both have exciting events you should attend.  DMS has their Pops Concert on March 1st and 3rd.  UMS has their Music Festival on March 9th.  Both of our middle schools have their Open House Nights on March 30th.

Our elementary schools also have some very exciting news.  State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson, and the California Department of Education (CDE) celebrate outstanding educational programs and practices through their California School Recognition Program.  The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award Program was created to honor schools while the California Distinguished Schools Program is on hiatus as California transitions to new assessment and accountability systems.  All of our K-5 schools applied for this distinguished award.  During the month of March, our elementary schools will be receiving site validation visits by educators representing the CDE. The validation visits are customarily just a formality.  We look forward to announcing our elementary sites as Gold Ribbon Award recipients later this spring.

All of our school sites, TK-8, have a plethora of opportunities for students and families to participate in school events in March.  We welcome you to enjoy the outstanding opportunities at your child’s school. Please look at the district or school web sites, www.unionsd.org , for an update of the exciting events happening in the district.

Sincerely,

Denise Clay
