denise clay April Superintendent’s Message

Spring break provided students, families and staff with some well-deserved time off.  The weather was beautiful and the opportunity to create memories with friends and family was greatly appreciated.

After break, we began preparations for the second year of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium testing (SBAC).  Teachers and students demonstrated last year they were more than prepared for the rigor of the new tests and the unique challenges and opportunities posed by the on-line testing platform.

As parents, you may ask how you can support your child’s success.  It is important that during the testing window, April 25th through May 20th, that students come to school on-time, well-rested, and having eaten a nutritious breakfast.

In addition, parents can familiarize themselves with the assessment by going to http://www.smarterbalanced.org/.  There are a wealth of resources on this site including:

  • Assessment Overview
  • Practice Tests
  • Sample Questions
  • Achievement Level Summaries
  • Student Score Review

In Union School District, we are proud of the efforts of our students and of our teachers.  This year will provide us with another opportunity to demonstrate their outstanding achievements.

 Sincerely,

Denise Clay
